Well, now, seriously, what would you call a yarn with this much
pink in it? "Girly Girl" was spun from a wool (breed unknown) and
mohair blend, again from Renegade craft faire in Chicago. The roving was lovely
to look at and fluffy to touch, but again, it had some weird bits in the preparation.
(So weird, in fact, that I brought a sample of the weirdness in to the teacher
who currently handles the textile science courses at school, just in case she
ever wanted to illustrate fiber preparation issues that can affect spinning.
I think there was only about a quarter ounce that ended up being unusable, but
what got me is that it looked like it had been *cut*, and slightly felted in
places. Cut like with a scissors.... ?????) Anyhoo.... It was also white with
occasional patches of bright-ish pink. I'm not really sure what happened there.....
Thing is, I'm still trying to get a handle on what all the lovely painted rovings
will look like once they're actually spun, and on how to spin them. I'm guessing
that I'm not the only little spinster out there who regards the transformation
between the appearance of the original painted roving, and the appearance of
the finished yarn, as complete magic. I'm almost always totally, completely
amazed. I think that's half the excitement of spinning.
The yarn was spun originally onto two skeins, then plied together.
