Another Year, Another Doublet

(What, again with the middle class?!)

Look, a sketch that's not on graph paper!

I like doublets. I don't know why. I mean, they don't show off your boobies and they're not exactly suited to the weather, but still, I like them. I think they're stylish. I think they're fun tailor. And I'm still trying to figure out how to get the pattern right, so I'm a little obsessed with them.

Now, I got a lot of really good feedback on my last doublet. And I'm flattered that that many people thought it worked out. I appreciate the kind words. Unfortunately, it was all just a little intimidating. That might be why I didn't take on any major projects for myself last year. (That might also have been lack of time, or a sudden, unfortunate, inability to make things that fit me. But fear really did play into it.) I'm feeling better now. ;)

I have a sketch I drew almost a year ago. I retouched it a little and added some color, mostly because the original was done in blue ball point pen during a very slow night at a hostess gig I used to have. I've wanted a paned doublet for a while now. The plan started coming together when I realized I had a lovely brown cotton (no clue what I bought that for), a roll of matte gold trim (a gift -- thanks to Chris and Maggs), and some mustard yellow silk (again, no *clue* what I bought that for -- I don't even look good in that color). And then I realized that, done correctly, I was on the verge of not only a lovely costume, but a truly awful visual pun.

Follow me through the costume, and I'll explain the pun at the end.
