Things That Make Me Giggle With Girlish Glee

So I says to my class, after lecture, “Let’s play a game!” There was almost a response…. “I need six classic movies.” It took a little second, but we got there. “Ok, now I need six kinds of monster!” Oh, wow, turns out my class is way more excited about monsters than movies. *laugh* So, two lists and two random numbers later, I handed out stacks of small croquis and happily announced, “Your design inspiration is It’s a Wonderful Life with Vampires! As many designs as you can in ten minutes – if you get stuck on one, put it to the side and move on. Go!”
So, what would you do with that one? ;) Read the rest of this entry »

Political Moment – Stop SOPA

Here’s the thing: this site relies on research. Sometimes I quote or show pictures of copy written materials. If I can’t show you, dear reader, the occasional bit of research, then what? You just have to take my word on it?

The current version of the SOPA bill allows websites to be censored and cut off from Paypal based solely on accusation rather than burden of proof. I object. (And, quite frankly, I’m getting a little sick of entire industries realizing that their business model hasn’t kept up with current trends and demanding legislative protection. Adapt, gosh darn it! Give up the gills, come down from the trees, and update your business plans.)

Thank you.

I think I broke a Girl Scout

I didn’t mean to. I really, really didn’t. I have nothing against Girl Scouts (now that I’m out of grade school). I think it’s kind of adorable when they actually go door-to-door selling their little cookies – way better than sending a parent in to the office/theater/classroom with a sign-up sheet. And when I could still eat their fiendishly addictive little delights, I did, often with wild abandon….

Of Resolutions and Lost Lawn Mowers

I have been cleaning out the garage for almost six years now. Seriously. Not, like, “Gosh, I should sweep!” Like, “Didn’t we have a floor in here at one point?” Every single year, My New Year’s resolutions have included something about this being the year when I will finally have a clean garage. You know the problem with New Year’s resolutions, right? Read the rest of this entry »

It’s the holidays – parking lots are packed, drivers are homicidal, and people are getting abnormally feisty about their preference in seasonal salutations. Looks like it’s even getting to my cat…. Read the rest of this entry »

Minor Tech Update

I’m all Mac, all the time, except sometimes at one of the works where there’s a PC on my desk. (And, often, the PC gets shoved back so I can put my Air on the desk and work. My poor little first-version-2008-never-seen-anything-like-it-Air has a better set of debugging tools, starting with a flipping command line.) But I’ve been noticing one thing about the PC that I really like: it’s got a bigger monitor. Doing graphics on a 13″ screen is … painful. I didn’t even realize how painful until I started doing them on a 19″ screen. Noodle on this: all of the eBooks so far have been done on that small little screen… Yikes! Twitter?! What the what?

Yeah, right, so the girl who can’t be friends with FaceBook signed up with a twitter account. Really. What? Why? Because sometimes I get lonely when I’m out in the garage sewing and I want to talk about what I’m doing, but “Only 12 more bias strips to go! Whee!” hardly seems blog-able…. I have six over-due library books right now. They are all on the topics of Time Management and Productivity. (This speaks volumes about what my life has been like for the last five months, and just how overwhelmed I’ve been feeling about it….)

Demo: Steampunk on a Shoestring: the Admirer

Posted on Saturday, July 16th, 2011 at 9:20 pm
Skill Level:

So I’m doing Picasso at the Lapin Agile at Wheaton Drama right now – big funny Steve Martin craziness, right? It’s our studio show. Now, I figured the studio show was where we do something artistically risky, just to see how the audience responds and not care too much about how it sells. This should tell you how much I still need to learn about theater… Le sigh. Silly me. Apparently, “studio show” is theater-ese for “low budget”. So, what’s a costumer to do when she finds herself with an 11 person period show, and the show budget is 500$ less than what she wanted for the costumes? Steampunk. Read the rest of this entry »
