Smaller Isn’t Faster, and What’s Next…

I spent the day doing photography for demos on patterning and making some basic stuff (smocks, skirts, etc). I’m working at sizes to fit Tyler Wentworth dolls, and I just had some sort of completely wrong notion that sewing a smock for a 16″ doll would be easier and/or faster than sewing for a human… But no. The seams are shorter, but little dolly armscyes are a giant pain the tushie.  And as if that weren’t bad enough….

Chicago is Over! (and all about socks…)

Posted on Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010 at 6:27 pm Posted in Blog | No Comments »

Another fine theatrical production has been downgraded to a pile of stinky laundry.  Yes, Chicago is finally over (except for one or two more loads of laundry, the great put-away, and other glamorous parts of the job).  My design partner and I were incredibly pleased with the way the show looked, and the fact that it’s over.

Chicago is Open!

I’m just digging myself out of the black hole that was tech week (and, in fact, the weeks prior to) – too much sewing/arts and crafts work, not enough time, and no where near enough coffee in the universe.  The show is up though, and it looks pretty good.   Read the rest of this entry »

A Model, a Direction, and the Upcoming Flood

After years and years of showing the entire internet how to draft patterns to my measurements-du-jour, I’ve decided to start working with a model.  There’s a couple reasons…  Firstly, I already have more costumes than I possibly know what to do with.  I have so many that I’m trying to come up with ways to get rid of them, without actually taking the huge, ego-wrenching risk of putting things on ebay and finding out that my treasured work is not worth a 25$ bid.   Read the rest of this entry »

Home Improvements

Just for something completely different, I’ve been working on redoing the bathroom.  (Well, no, technically I did it because mom told me to.)  So what happens when your friendly neighborhood sempstress trades in her sewing machine and scissors for a paint brush and a miter saw?  Here’s what’s been keeping me away from the computer…. Christmas Sockies!

I just got round to pulling all the pictures off my camera – something I clearly need to do more often, because christmas was still on there….  One of my gifts for my sister was a pair of socks. Read the rest of this entry »

an AAS, a Certificate, and a Vanity

All the hurdles have been jumped and the red tape has been politely rolled into a neat ball, and I’ve finally received my Associate in Applied Science (Fashion Design – Honors) and my Certificate for completing the Fashion Entrepreneurship program (with Honors).   Read the rest of this entry »

Hey, Internet – sorry I hid your files!

Posted on Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010 at 11:10 am Posted in Blog, Site Notes | 3 Comments »

So I just realized that I’m getting a whole mass of 404s (ie, the dreaded “File Not Found” error). I don’t know why that was a surprise, since I moved everything last August. I’ve added little redirect-y pagey-poos for the worst offenders. I guess I should have done that last August… Read the rest of this entry »
